Privacy Policy

Overview

Keed ("we," "our," or "us") is a parental-control video app designed for families. Keed is fully offline — all data stays on your device. We do not operate servers, maintain databases, or collect personal information from you or your children.

What Keed stores on your device

Keed stores the following data locally on your device using device storage. None of this data is transmitted to our servers (we have none) or shared with third parties:

Kid profiles. Name, avatar, daily time limits, and approved YouTube channels you select for each child.
Watch history. Which videos your kids watch and when, stored per kid profile.
Search quota counter. Tracks how many YouTube channel searches you perform each day (capped at 5 when not signed in with Google).
App preferences. Theme (dark mode) and onboarding state.
Video cache. Thumbnails and metadata for the home screen.

All of this data is removed if you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.

When you uninstall Keed, everything is deleted. Because all data lives on your device, uninstalling the app permanently removes kid profiles, watch history, approved channels, app preferences, and any stored Google OAuth tokens. No copy of your data exists on any server — once it's gone, it's gone.

One thing to note: If you connected your Google account, Keed's access to your YouTube account remains active until you revoke it. We recommend revoking Keed's access via your Google Account permissions after uninstalling.

YouTube and Google OAuth (optional)

Keed can optionally connect to your Google account to use your personal YouTube Data API quota. This is entirely voluntary — the app works without it, with reduced search capacity.

If you connect your Google account:

A Google OAuth 2.0 token is stored locally on your device so the app can make YouTube API requests on your behalf.
The token grants read-only access to your YouTube account (youtube.readonly scope).
Your Google account name and email are not collected, stored, or transmitted by Keed.
You can disconnect at any time from the parent dashboard or revoke access via your Google Account settings.

If you do not connect your Google account:

Keed uses a shared API key to make YouTube requests.
Channel searches are limited to 5 per day to manage API quota. All other features (watching approved channels, time limits, dashboard) work without restriction.

Google Account & YouTube Data

The following disclosures describe exactly what Keed does with access granted via Google Sign-In. Keed requests only the youtube.readonly scope and nothing else.

Data Access. We request the youtube.readonly scope solely to look up public YouTube channel metadata (name, description, thumbnail, subscriber count) via the YouTube Data API, using the signed-in parent's own API quota. We do not access private data such as subscriptions, watch history, playlists, or uploaded videos.

Data Use. This access is used only to let parents search for and verify YouTube channels before adding them to their child's curated channel list within the app.

Data Transfer. Keed has no backend server. All data — including the OAuth access token and refresh token — is stored exclusively on the user's device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Data Protection. Tokens are stored on-device using AsyncStorage (React Native's local device storage). They are used only to make direct API calls from the user's own device to Google's servers over HTTPS.

Data Retention & Deletion. Tokens persist on-device until the user signs out or uninstalls the app. Signing out (available in-app) revokes the access token directly with Google (oauth2.googleapis.com/revoke) and deletes all stored tokens from the device immediately. Users can also revoke access anytime at Sign in - Google Accounts.

What we do not collect

Keed does not collect or have access to:

Your name, email, or any personal identity
Your children's names, ages, or any personal information
Usage analytics or telemetry
Device identifiers or advertising data
Location data

Third-party services

Google YouTube Data API. When you search for channels or load video data, the app sends requests directly from your device to Google's YouTube Data API. If you are signed in with Google, these requests are authenticated with your personal OAuth token (your identity is visible to Google). If you are not signed in, requests use a shared API key (Google sees the requests but not your identity). Google may process these requests in accordance with its own privacy policy.

YouTube IFrame Player. Videos are played through YouTube's embedded player. Google may collect data about video playback in accordance with its own privacy policy.

Expo. The app uses Expo's build and authentication session tools. Expo does not receive any personal data from Keed.

Data security

All data is stored on your device only. OAuth tokens are stored using device storage (AsyncStorage). Clearing the app data or uninstalling the app removes all stored information. We recommend revoking Google access via your Google Account settings if you uninstall the app.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Keed is designed for use by parents on behalf of their children. Keed does not collect any personal information from children under 13 or any other users. All data is stored locally on the parent's device. No data is transmitted to Keed's servers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app.
